Southern California
Overview

Webb Tours has been taking people to the world famous Tournament of Roses Parade since 1970. Last year was the first New Year’s Day we haven’t spent in Pasadena (thank you Covid). But they are gearing up for Rose Parade 2022 and all indications are that it is a GO and we will be there to enjoy it. And we’ll add some other fun things in the area that you’ll read about in this brochure. It’s an American and Webb Tours tradition going back decades. It continues to get better every year.

So join us as we ring in 2022 and say goodbye to the pandemic. It will be a great way to celebrate. This one fills fast.  Don’t wait!

Itinerary

December 28, 2021:   This morning, we’ll gather for our flight which arrives in Burbank.  After lunch, we’ll drive an hour to beautiful Santa Barbara, California.  This is a lovely city on the ocean that is worth a look.  We’ll take you down to Shoreline Park for a chance to stroll and enjoy the views.  Our hotel is about an hour up the road in the Danish town of Solvang.

December 29:  Welcome to charm!  Recently, this Danish town celebrated its 107 year anniversary and we arrive at the tail end of the Yulefest to enjoy the lights and decorations and the holiday atmosphere.  This morning, a local guide will join us to show us around the town and surrounding areas. We’ll see the beautiful vineyards, the interesting Santa Ynez Mission and take a short walking tour in town.  There is much to see and learn about here.  You’ll then have a couple of hours to enjoy lunch and chance to browse in the fun ambiance and shops.  There are 150 botiques, stores and art galleries and culinary delights with fun Danish treats.  In the late afternoon, we’ll drive 30 minutes down to the ocean (Gaviota State Park) and take a look at the tide pools (tide permitting) teeming with interesting sea life.  After a rest at the hotel, a lovely dinner is included this evening at Bit ‘O Denmark featuring a smorgasbord of delicious Danish food.  Tour pays for breakfast, dinner and local tour.

December 30:  This morning we drive south along the coast toward Los Angeles.  By 11:00, we arrive at the VERY INTERESTING Reagan Library in Simi Valley.  We spend a couple of hours enjoying the beautifully presented exhibits documenting the Reagan years.  You can see a piece of the Berlin Wall, walk through Air Force One, see where he is buried and enjoy other video and written presentations. We’ll enjoy a prearranged lunch while at the museum.  In the afternoon, we’ll go into LA and drive up to the famous Griffith Park Observatory (near the Hollywood sign) for spectacular views of the city.  Our hotel is in Van Nuys, central to Hollywood and Pasadena, very convenient for our activities in the area.   Tonight we will take you to the corner of Hollywood and Highland where you’ll have time for dinner on your own on the Walk of Fame.  After dinner, you will have an option to see a Broadway Show at the Pantages Theater (just down the street).  Those who don’t wish to see a play will be transferred to the hotel.  Note: At the time of this brochure, the play at Pantages Theater for December has not been announced – tickets not included in the price. Tour pays for breakfast, lunch and museum admission today.

December 31: This morning we drive over toward the Pasadena area.  We go directly to the Irwindale Pavilion which is a warehouse where the floats are being assembled. There is a flurry of activity as the live flowers are scattered over the floats.  You can walk within a few feet of about 1/4 of the parade floats and have a chance to really appreciate the detail that goes into every float.  After lunch, we have reserved seats to enjoy BANDFEST which is very enjoyable.  During the parade, you only get a chance to see these talented bands briefly.  At Bandfest, we can enjoy more of their talents – as these are the best bands in the country.  After a rest, we’ll drive down to Long Beach and enjoy a fun and unique activity called Gondola Getaway.  Authentic Venetian gondolas gently cruise us through the enchanting canals and waterways of Naples Island.  It’s as close as you get to Venice in the USA.   We will enjoy delicious New Year’s Eve dinner at The Reef Restaurant.   We have a private room overlooking Long Beach Harbor and the Queen Mary.  Breakfast, float viewing, Bandfest, dinner and Gondolas are included.

January 1, 2022:   This morning we will arise early and head for Pasadena for the 132nd Annual Tournament of Roses Parade.  The parade continues to get better year after year. You’ll be among the first to see the spectacle as our excellent reserved seats are at the beginning of the parade route (near the network television booths).  We have an unobstructed view in both directions and the sun is at our backs.  In addition, the bus parks right behind our seats which is very convenient.  It is often chilly until the sun comes up so it’s nice to have the bus close by just in case.  It is the BEST POSSIBLE scenario for Rose Parade seats (we have enjoyed these seats for over 30 years).  After the parade, we will enjoy a chance to see all of the floats up close at the post parade float viewing before transferring to the airport for our flight back to Salt Lake.   Tour to pay for light breakfast, parade seats and float viewing.

Registration Information:

To make a reservation, simply fill out the attached reservation form and send it to us with a deposit of $300 per person.  When we receive your deposit, we will mail you a receipt confirming that you are registered for the tour.  A letter with instructions, hotel itinerary flight information (if applicable) and luggage tags will be sent roughly 60 days prior to departure at which time the balance will be due.  You do not need to pay the balance until after you receive that packet.  We require final payments in the form of a check.  If that is not possible, arrangements can be made to use a credit card.  Webb Tours accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. A 2% fee applies to final payments made by credit card.

Cancellation Penalties

We understand that you may need to cancel your trip for whatever reason.  If it is 60 days or more before departure, all money will be refunded.  If airline tickets are purchased prior to that time (with your permission), they become the property of the traveler and are not refundable.  All other funds will be returned if cancellation occurs outside of 60 days.  If it is within 60 days, we will charge you only what Webb Tours cannot recover.  In some cases, we can recover all of it.  In others, we cannot.  Cruise lines, airlines, hotels and other service providers require funds in advance and have their own rules about what will be refunded once paid.  We must follow their guidelines.  For airlines, specifically, tickets are generally non refundable when purchased.  However, most airlines will allow the value of the canceled tickets to be reused for future travel, though a penalty may be assessed to reuse the tickets.  If you have to cancel, Webb Tours will work with other providers to obtain as much refund as possible for our travelers.  Our travelers know us to be very fair in this regard.

Cancellation Insurance:

Cancellation insurance is also available should you be interested.  The insurance provider that we us is Travelex Insurance.  You can learn about them at www.travelexinsurance.com.  With this insurance, most of your money will be returned to you in case you have to cancel for covered reasons (illness or death of an immediate family member) at the last minute.  The price for the insurance varies based on the price of the trip and the age of the participant (at the time the insurance is purchased).

If you are interested in the insurance, you can purchase it through Webb Tours at any time. The insurance goes into effect once purchased.  If you have any pre-existing conditions, it is best to purchase the insurance within 14 days of making your initial deposit as that will cover an illness that may result from a pre-existing condition. If you don’t have pre-existing conditions, you can purchase the insurance any time between now and the time you make your final payment.  Insurance cannot be purchased after your final payment is made.  Webb Tours is not the insurer and acts as agent for Travelex.  To activate your insurance, we need your premium and your birth date.  Insurance also includes the following items:

Trip interruption up to 150% of the cost of the trip (if you have to leave in the middle of the trip)

  • Trip delay: $750
  • Missed Connection: $750
  • Baggage & Personal Effects (for lost luggage): $1,000
