March 30: Free morning to enjoy Waikiki Beach or other activities in the Waikiki area. At mid day, we transfer to the cruise terminal to board the beautiful PRIDE OF AMERICA to begin our cruise. Ship sails at 7:00 PM this evening
IF YOU FLEW IN FROM THE MAINLAND TODAY, you’ll arrive in the afternoon transfer to the ship.
March 31-April 1: Port of call in Maui. We have two days on Maui. On the first day, our optional excursion takes us to visit the lush Iao Valley to see the famous Needle in Maui’s most scenic area. We also visit the Maui Tropical Plantation and enjoy a train tour of the plantation showcasing Hawaii’s incredible flora. You have a free afternoon. On the second day, you can book something through the ship, or join our group to go to the whaling town of Lahaina for lunch and browsing in this charming ocean-side town (and also home to the world’s second largest Banyan Tree that takes up an entire city block). We sail around 4:00 on the 2nd.
April 2: Port of call in Hilo on the Big Island. This is a place of RARE beauty and wonder. From 14,000 foot peaks (Mauna Loa) to an erupting Volcano (Kilauea) to the flower capital of the world. Our optional private excursion today depends on the Volcano (which has been continuously erupting in some form for over 30 years). If Volcano National Park is open, we’ll visit the Jagger Museum ½ mile from the crater), then walk through an extinct lava tube. Finally, we’ll see firsthand how the volcanoes have affected the landscape and give you a chance to walk on the hardened lava flows. We’ll then visit a Macademia Nut farm on our way back to the ship. If the park is closed, we’ll take you to Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens where we stroll through Hawaii’s premier garden paradise featuring waterfalls, plants of all varieties and all in an ocean front setting. It is spectacular. We then set sail for the other side of the Big Island.
April 3: Port of call in Kona. Located on Hawaii’s western shore where the slopes of Mauna Loa meet the sea is beautiful sun-drenched Kona. Our ship docks right in the quaint town so there is much to do within walking distance. If you like to get in the water, this is a good place to do it. It us usually quite warm here and the water is beautiful and refreshing. Our optional private excursion today is a historic tour of Kona and the surrounding area. Or if you prefer, just stroll the town or choose a different activity through the ship.
April 4: Port of call in Kauai. For many, Kauai is the favorite island. And with good reason. You have a full day and a half to enjoy it (with overnight in port). Our optional private excursion is a full day activity featuring spectacular WAIMEA CANYON, the grand canyon of the Pacific (wow!) followed by a ride on the Wailua River to the famous Fern Grotto. We’ll also see beautiful waterfalls, mountain scenery and enjoy lunch in a scenic setting.
April 5: Free morning in Kauai until 2:00. There is a lovely public beach just five minutes from the ship if you want to enjoy some beach time this morning. This afternoon, enjoy a 2 hour sailing along the fabulous NaPali Coast, Hawaii’s most scenic coast. Just find a spot on the ship and enjoy it. You can only see it by foot, helicopter or from the water. These are sheer, multi-colored, mountain cliffs plunging vertically into the ocean. It is Hawaii’s most dramatic scenery and you have to see it to believe it. We arrive back in Oahu this evening.
April 6: We wake up in Honolulu today. We will enjoy a tour of Honolulu and a visit to Pearl Harbor (if we didn’t visit before the cruis) with its newly opened Visitors Center. We’ll also visit the Dole Plantation which is always fun. We’ll transfer to the airport for our flight home, arriving the morning of April 7th.
