Overview

We’re going to HOLLAND!  No, not in Europe, but in MICHIGAN.  And we’re going in the spring when the tulips are in full bloom and the scenery is lovely.  But that’s not all.  Michigan is one of our most beautiful states and has much to offer.  Our tour will highlight three areas of the state:  First, we’ll visit Chicago before traveling a short distance to Holland where we’ll participate in many activities associated with one of America’s great traditions: “Tulip Time”.  While there we’ll see great entertainment, festive parades, great Dutch culture and millions of tulips.  Next, it’s on to Mackinac Island, one of the most peaceful and charming places you’ll ever visit (no cars allowed, only horse and buggy).  Finally, we’ll see the German Village of Frankenmuth (Michgan’s most visited town), with its interesting culture and peaceful setting.  Before flying home, we’ll visit Dearborn, Michigan with interesting activities at the Ford complex.

The tour includes all breakfasts and many other meals in some lovely settings.  We’ll travel on a luxury motor coach, stay in excellent hotels (including the Island House Hotel on the island) and enjoy some unique and memorable activities.  If you’re looking for a spring getaway that is full of scenery, culture, history and great entertainment, this one is definitely worth considering.  We hope you can join us.

Itinerary

May 8: This morning we’ll fly to Chicago, arriving in the early afternoon.  We’ll go into town and enjoy a stroll on the Magnificent Mile followed by some free time for lunch and browsing at Navy Pier.  We’ll then enjoy a one hour boat ride (departing from Navy Pier) on the Chicago River known as the Architectural Tour.  It goes right through the middle of downtown Chicago and is a great way to see and learn about the city. Everyone loves this and you’ll see why.  We’ll visit Millennial and Grant Parks which are important parts of this vibrant city.   We’ll sleep in a Chicago suburb tonight.  Tour to pay for boat ride.

May 9:  This morning we’ll work our way north along the eastern shores of Lake Michigan.  We’ll arrive in Holland by noon.  A delicious Dutch lunch will be waiting for us.  After lunch we’ll be welcomed to town by the delightful Kinderparade featuring the children of Holland dressed in Dutch costumes and carrying colorful banners and signs depicting their heritage.  In addition, high school bands in wooden shoes and other Dutch fun are part of the parade.  We’ll then go to our EXCELLENT hotel and check in and relax before a fun evening out.  We’ll have a delicious dinner followed by a show called Fiddle Fire. This is the Tanning Family with incredible musical talent, humor and charm, now in their 8th season at Tulip Time (Shows for 2024 have not yet been announced, but we expect this show to be there – if not, it will be replaced by another excellent show).  Tour to pay for breakfast, lunch, Parade seats, dinner and show.

May 10:  This morning a costumed guide will join us to show us the area.  We’ll see the interesting Klompen Dancers with their wooden shoes lining the streets.   During lunch, we’ll enjoy some time for browsing in Marketplaats with lots of local crafts.  This afternoon, we’ll enjoy the two highest concentrations of tulips.  One is called Windmill Island where we’ll see 120,000 tulips, tour a 235 year old Dutch Windmill (the oldest known working windmill), a beautiful setting and more.  Then we’ll visit the Veldher Tulip Gardens and the Delft Factory.  The gardens include acre after acre of every different kind of tulip imaginable in a beautiful garden setting, with over 2.5 million tulips in one place (like being in the Netherlands)!  And you can also take an optional tour (free) of the Delft Factory where the famous Delftware is made.  After a rest, we’ll have a nice dinner followed by the headliner evening show (which will be announced toward the end of 2023).  Tour to pay for breakfast,  tour, Veldhers, Windmill Island, dinner & show today.

May 11:  This morning we’ll drive through the interior of Michigan where you’ll see some lovely countryside.  We’ll have some interesting stops along the way.  By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Mackinac City where we’ll board a ferry for an 18 minute ride over to Mackinac Island (pronounced Mak-i-naw).   The island is simply one of the most unique, beautiful, and serene settings anywhere.  There are no cars, no pollution, no noise, just a magnificent backdrop for our two nights here.  We’ll stay at the historic Lake View Hotel in the middle of Main Street You’ll have some free time in the afternoon and evening to enjoy this charming place. There is much to see and do withing walking distance.   Tour to pay for breakfast and ferry.

May 12:  We’ll spend all day on the island today.  After breakfast, you’ll be on your own until about 10:30.  Lots to do within walking distance.  You can browse in the shops, stroll along the lake, see the butterfly house or just relax.  At 10:30, a local guide will show us some of the highlights of the island in our horse and carriage.  In a matter of minutes, you go form seaside scenes to pine forests to breathtaking overlooks.  Most of the island is a state park.  The tour ends at the luxurious Grand Hotel where we’ll enjoy the famous Grand Luncheon Buffet.  The Grand Hotel was made famous by the movie Somewhere in Time, which was filmed on the island.   This may be the most elegant lunch that you ever eat.  After lunch, you can explore this hotel and gardens which comprise the largest summer resort hotel in America, with the largest front porch in the world.   The views from the wrap-around verandah are breathtaking.  You’ll then have some free time to shop, visit Fort Maciknac or rest.  There are many special places to visit in our country.  Mackinac Island is certainly one of those places.  You simply have to see it!  Tour to pay for breakfast, lunch, and carriage tour.

May 13: This morning, we’ll drive a couple of hours to the little town of Frankenmuth, a quaint Bavarian village in Central Michigan which was originally settled by a small group of Germans who came as Christian missionaries.  After lunch, a local guide, dressed in German costume, will show us this unique little town for one hour.   We’ll have some time to browse and enjoy the setting.  This is also home to Bronner’s, the world’s LARGEST Christmas Store!  Our hotel is the delightful Bavarian Haus or Zenders.  Zender’s famous Chicken Dinner is included tonight.  Tour pays for breakfast, dinner and guide.

May 14:  Before we leave Frankenmuth, you’ll have some time to browse on its very attractive Main Street with its famous covered bridge.  Frankenmuth is Michigan’s number one visitor attraction so you know it has to be charming (and it is).  We’re not far from the Detroit area which is the birthplace of mass production and the automobile.  You’ll have a choice this afternoon: You can tour the famous Henry Ford Museum OR you can enjoy an interesting Ford Factory Tour (where they make the Ford F150 Truck).  One or the other is included in the price.  We’ll then transfer to the airport for our flight home.  Tour to pay for breakfast and Henry Ford Activities.

Please Note

Registration Information:

To make a reservation, simply fill out the attached reservation form and send it to us with a deposit of $300 per person.  When we receive your deposit, we will mail you a receipt confirming that you are registered for the tour.  A letter with instructions, hotel itinerary flight information (if applicable) and luggage tags will be sent roughly 60 days prior to departure at which time the balance will be due.  You do not need to pay the balance until after you receive that packet.  We require final payments in the form of a check.  If that is not possible, arrangements can be made to use a credit card.  Webb Tours accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. A 2% fee applies to final payments made by credit card.

Cancellation Penalties

We understand that you may need to cancel your trip for whatever reason.  If it is 120 days or more before departure, all money will be refunded.  If airline tickets are purchased prior to that time (with your permission), they become the property of the traveler and are not refundable.  All other funds will be returned if cancellation occurs outside of 120 days.  If it is within 120 days, we will charge you only what Webb Tours cannot recover.  In some cases, we can recover all of it.  In others, we cannot.  Cruise lines, airlines, hotels and other service providers require funds in advance and have their own rules about what will be refunded once paid.  We must follow their guidelines.  For airlines, specifically, tickets are generally non refundable when purchased.  However, most airlines will allow the value of the canceled tickets to be reused for future travel, though a penalty may be assessed to reuse the tickets.  If you have to cancel, Webb Tours will work with other providers to obtain as much refund as possible for our travelers.  Our travelers know us to be very fair in this regard.

Cancellation Insurance:

Cancellation insurance is also available should you be interested.  The insurance provider that we us is Travelex Insurance.  You can learn about them at www.travelexinsurance.com.  With this insurance, most of your money will be returned to you in case you have to cancel for covered reasons (illness or death of an immediate family member) at the last minute.  The price for the insurance varies based on the price of the trip and the age of the participant (at the time the insurance is purchased).

If you are interested in the insurance, you can purchase it through Webb Tours at any time. The insurance goes into effect once purchased.  If you have any pre-existing conditions, it is best to purchase the insurance within 14 days of making your initial deposit as that will cover an illness that may result from a pre-existing condition. If you don’t have pre-existing conditions, you can purchase the insurance any time between now and the time you make your final payment.  Insurance cannot be purchased after your final payment is made.  Webb Tours is not the insurer and acts as agent for Travelex.  To activate your insurance, we need your premium and your birth date.  Insurance also includes the following items:

  • Trip interruption up to 150% of the cost of the trip (if you have to leave in the middle of the trip)
  • 100% of insured trip cost (up to $50,000)
