Itinerary

Daily Itinerary:

May 20-21:  With great anticipation this afternoon, we’ll gather for our flight to Berlin, Germany (with one stop in route).  We’ll arrive around mid day on May 21.  A fabulous journey awaits. We will arrive in time to see some of the highlights of Berlin like the famous Brandenburg Gate, Jewish Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, and have a chance to stroll in beautiful Tiergarten (to keep us awake!). We will then drive down to Freiberg where a delicious welcome dinner awaits overlooking the quaint town square. We’ll have a nice welcome dinner at the hotel and retire early. In flight meals and dinner on May 20.

May 22:  This morning we have a session in the Freiberg, Germany Temple. Few temples, if any, have a story like this to tell. The history of the church behind the Iron Curtain is interesting to revisit. After our session, we’ll drive two hours to Eisenach (with a lunch stop on the way). We will visit famous Wartburg Castle where Martin Luther was exiled in the early 16th Century. It was here that Luther translated the Bible from Latin to German. It is a moving place to visit. What happened here changed the world forever. We stay in Eisnach tonight.  Breakfast and dinner included today

May 23:  After breakfast, (and a quick look at Bach’s house), we will drive two hours to the Frankfurt area. Our first stop is at the Gutenberg Museum where movable type was invented. Lunch is included at a delightful restaurant on the main square in Mainz.  We will then show you some highlights in Frankfurt (including the main historic square and the beautiful Main River). After checking into our hotel, we’ll enjoy dinner and a session in the Frankfurt Temple that was recently renovated and rededicated. Breakfast and lunch are included today.

May 24:  This morning we get an early start (7:00 AM) as we make our way into France!  By mid day, we’ll be in Remis where we’ll enjoy a one hour tour of the magnificent Reims Cathedral.  Since we can’t visit Notre Dame in Paris (because of the 2019 fire), this is the next best thing. Built in the same style, and larger then Notre Dame, it is well worth a visit. You’ll then enjoy lunch on your own before we continue into the Paris area where we’ll spend two nights. We will stay in Versailles tonight near the temple. After freshening up, we’ll enjoy a session in the beautiful Paris Temple.  Breakfast included today.

May 25:  Today we enjoy Paris. It is Saturday so traffic is light and we can enjoy it. We’ll see all those places that make it famous: Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Concord Square, River Sein and much more. Time for lunch and browsing around the Tuileries Gardens. In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy a visit to the Gardens at the Palace of Versailles. This was the lavish home of the French Monarchy that is fascinating to see. Dinner is included at our hotel tonight.  Breakfast and dinner are included today.

May 26:  Today we travel through rural France enjoying the sweeping vistas, quaint towns and rolling hills that make rural France famous. We’ll venture off the motorway and visit the quaint town of Essoyes, home to the famous impressionist painter, Renoir. The little town square is on a small river surrounded by the scenic hills. We’ll stroll through the quaint streets to Renoir’s house and studio and have a picnic lunch prepared by the local baker. Delicious! Our afternoon drive takes us back across the border into the famous Black Forest of Germany which is a MUST SEE if you’re anywhere near it. We’ll stay at the famous Hofgut Sternen Hotel, famous for its setting, cuckoo clocks and some very interesting history that we’ll share. Dinner is included at the hotel.  Breakfast and dinner are included today.

May 27:  This hotel is fabulous. We’ll stay until 10:00 this morning so you can walk in the forest, do some shopping or just relax in this beautiful, wooded setting. We’ll make a picture stop at Lake Titisee before continuing south and crossing the border into Switzerland.  By lunchtime, we’ll be in the Swiss capitol of Bern which is a delightful place to visit. A local guide will join us this afternoon and show is this medieval town from the famous Rose Gardens to the Bear Pits to the centuries old streets with their iconic fountains (including Einstein’s house). Bern is one of the most interesting cities in Europe and we can’t wait to show it to you.  We’ll stay at the Holiday Inn tonight. Breakfast and local tour included today.

May 28:  Another fabulous day in store.  We will begin with an 8:00 AM session at the beautiful Bern, Switzerland Temple – the first temple in Europe. We then drive an hour and enjoy lunch in charming Interlaken. Just 20 minutes south of Interlaken is (in my opinion) the most beautiful valley in Europe! It’s called the Lauterbrunnen Valley and it is spectacularly situated with steep mountains on three sides, flanked by the majestic Jungfrau Massif, three of the most famous mountains in the Alps (Monch, Jungfrau, Eiger). While in the valley, we’ll take you to the stunning Trumelbach Falls which is a series of 10 waterfalls that cascade INSIDE a mountain. It is a spectacular natural wonder. After exiting the valley, we will take a scenic train ride through the mountain and into Zermatt – one of the world’s greatest towns. We’ll stay here two nights.  Breakfast included today.

May 29:  There is simply no place on earth like Zermatt and no mountain like the Matterhorn.  This is a pedestrian town and the only place you can see the Matterhorn in Switzerland.  Our morning excursion takes us on the Gornergrat, Europe’s highest railway, which takes us closer to the base of the Matterhorn.  The views can’t be overstated.  You have free time this afternoon to enjoy Zermatt as you wish – there is lots to do.  Dinner is included tonight. Breakfast and dinner are included today.

May 30:  This morning we depart for Tasch to meet our bus. We then continue over the fabulous Simplon Pass into Italy where we spend the next several days. By late morning, we will arrive in the town of Stesa on the shores of beautiful Lake Maggiore.  This is the famous Italian Lakes District with mountain scenes, lakeside towns and hillsides dotted with private villas.  After lunch, we have included a boat ride to Isola Bella, one of the Borromean Islands in the middle of lake Maggiore.  The island is quite small and split between a fabulous palace, manicured Italian gardens and a quaint fishing village.  You’ll have time to explore it as you wish. We then continue on this afternoon into Bologna for the evening.  Breakfast and dinner are included today.

May 31:  We’ll drive into Florence this morning, one of the greatest cities in the world. We’ll stop at the Piazza Michelangelo and admire it from above. We will enjoy a 3 hour walking tour with a chance to see the iconic places in this great city – like the Duomo, the Baptistry, the River Arno (Ponte Vecchio), Palazzo Vecchio, and of course the highlight: A chance to see The David in the Academy.  (Note: A fair amount of walking is required to see Florence as coaches are not allowed into the center of the city). We then continue into Rome where we will spend two evenings.  Breakfast included today.

June 1:  WELCOME TO ROME! Today is Saturday and we’ll begin our day at the fabulous Rome Temple, dedicated in March, 2019. This is the first temple built in a Biblical land and there is no experience to match the setting and graundeur of the temple, piazza and Visitors Center.  In the afternoon, we will show you the most famous sites of Rome including the Colosseum, The Forum, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and more. We have a lovely dinner tonight near our hotel. Breakfast and dinner are included today.

June 2:  This morning we will visit St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. It is the largest and grandest in all of Catholicism and the art and architecture (including Michelangelo’s Pieta) is absolutely stunning. We then transfer to the Rome Airport for our flight back to the USA OR if you choose, you continue on to Spain and Portugal. Breakfast included today.

OPTIONAL SPAIN EXTENSION – June 2-6

June 2:  For those who wish to include a visit to PORTUGAL and SPAIN in your southern European tour, read on. This group will fly this afternoon from Rome to Lisbon, Portugal. On our way to the hotel, we’ll ascend to the Lisbon Castle on the hill for spectacular evening views of this beautiful city. We then check into our hotel.  Breakfast and dinner are included today.

June 3:   A local guide will join us this morning and show us some of the highlights of this elegant city including the Monument to Discovery, the impressive Monestary at San Jeronimo. And the Belem Tower. Then, just thirty minutes away, is one of the town that Lord Byron called “the most charming town IN EUROPE”. It’s called Sintra and it has a little of everything. You’ll have time for a memorable lunch in a sidewalk café followed by a visit to the colorful Pena Palace. Set on the mountain with stunning views, this castle is fun to see. We’ll have a guided tour. This is also home to 2000 year old Moorish ruins at the top of the mountain.

June 4:   This morning we’ll visit the newly dedicated Lisbon Temple. After which, we’ll transfer to the airport for a short 50 minute flight to Madrid. Our local guides will pick us up and show us around this impressive city including a visit to the opulent Royal Palace that rivals Versailles. We’ll see some other highlights of the city before checking into our hotel.  Breakfast and dinner are included today.

June 5:  This morning we drive an hour south to medieval town of Toledo which dates to Roman times – and it is a world treasure.  The narrow streets, well preserved architecture and more make this a UNESCO city that is fabulous to see. We have a grand farewell lunch at a historic hacienda and it is a meal you won’t soon forget.  After a rest at the hotel, our final session will be at the Madrid Temple this evening.

June 6:  Today we transfer to the Madrid Airport for our Delta flights home.

Please Note

Registration Information:

To make a reservation, simply fill out the attached reservation form and send it to us with a deposit of $400 per person.  When we receive your deposit, we will mail you a receipt confirming that you are registered for the tour.  A letter with instructions, hotel itinerary flight information (if applicable) and luggage tags will be sent roughly 90 days prior to departure at which time the balance will be due.  You do not need to pay the balance until after you receive that packet.  We require final payments in the form of a check.  If that is not possible, arrangements can be made to use a credit card.  Webb Tours accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. A 2.5% fee applies to final payments made by credit card.

Cancellation Penalties

We understand that you may need to cancel your trip for whatever reason.  If it is 120 days or more before departure, all money will be refunded.  If airline tickets are purchased prior to that time (with your permission), they become the property of the traveler and are not refundable.  All other funds will be returned if cancellation occurs outside of 120 days.  If it is within 120 days, we will charge you only what Webb Tours cannot recover.  In some cases, we can recover all of it.  In others, we cannot.  Cruise lines, airlines, hotels and other service providers require funds in advance and have their own rules about what will be refunded once paid.  We must follow their guidelines.  For airlines, specifically, tickets are generally non refundable when purchased.  However, most airlines will allow the value of the canceled tickets to be reused for future travel, though a penalty may be assessed to reuse the tickets.  If you have to cancel, Webb Tours will work with other providers to obtain as much refund as possible for our travelers.  Our travelers know us to be very fair in this regard.

Cancellation Insurance:

Cancellation insurance is also available should you be interested.  The insurance provider that we us is Travelex Insurance.  You can learn about them at www.travelexinsurance.com.  With this insurance, most of your money will be returned to you in case you have to cancel for covered reasons (illness or death of an immediate family member) at the last minute.  The price for the insurance varies based on the price of the trip and the age of the participant (at the time the insurance is purchased).

If you are interested in the insurance, you can purchase it through Webb Tours at any time. The insurance goes into effect once purchased.  If you have any pre-existing conditions, it is best to purchase the insurance within 14 days of making your initial deposit as that will cover an illness that may result from a pre-existing condition. If you don’t have pre-existing conditions, you can purchase the insurance any time between now and the time you make your final payment.  Insurance cannot be purchased after your final payment is made.  Webb Tours is not the insurer and acts as agent for Travelex.  To activate your insurance, we need your premium and your birth date.  Insurance also includes the following items:

  • Trip interruption up to 150% of the cost of the trip (if you have to leave in the middle of the trip)
  • 100% of insured trip cost (up to $50,000)
