The northeastern United States has much to offer. Our nation was born here so there is critical history. The landscapes and scenery are among the most dramatic in the US and there is a variety of exciting things to see and do. Add to that the beautiful autumn colors which are ablaze this time of year AND visits to 5 LDS temples and you have a memorable trip that you won’t want to miss.
We’ll fly to Boston, Mass and make our way south through Connecticut, New York, eastern Pensyllvania and Washington DC where the tour concludes. We’ll be able to enjoy temple sessions in Boston, Hartford, New York City, Philadelphia and the recently rededicated temple in Washington DC.
Demand has already been heavy. We suggest you register early if you are interested.
We expect airfare to be roughly $400 per person, round trip, from Salt Lake City.
THIS is a CUSTOM ITINERARY that you won’t find anywhere else.
And it is the perfect time to be in in the region. Temperatures are pleasant and beauties of nature are on full display. You may have been to many of these places before, but visiting the temples along with all the other highlights and fall colors makes this an inspirational adventure. There is much to see and do along the way and we are excited to show it to you. We expect demand to be heavy. Space is limited to one bus (44 passengers).
October 11, 2023: Today we embark on an exciting and inspirational autumn adventure as we board our flight to Boston, Mass. We’ll arrive at Logan International Airport at approximately 5:00 PM and transfer to our hotel in the suburb of Woburn. A delicious family style Italian dinner is included at Polcari’s near our hotel. D
October 12: This morning we’ll drive about 30 minutes to the northeast and make an interesting stop in the town of Topsfield where Joseph Smith’s ancestors settled. They lived on the same homestead from the 1660’s (Robert Smith) to the early 1800’s (Joseph Smith Sr.). There is a plaque commemorating five generations of Smiths that lived here and worshiped in the Congregational Church. We then continue into Salem, Mass for lunch followed by a very interesting visit to the Salem Witch Museum. We then return to Boston showing you some sites on the Freedom trail before returning to the hotel. B
October 13: This morning, we’ll get an early start and enjoy a session in the beautiful Boston Temple that was dedicated in 2004. The setting and architecture are stunning. After the temple, we’ll drive for an hour to the quaint town of Sturbridge and enjoy a special lunch at the Publick House dating to the mid 1700’s. The atmosphere and the food are exceptional – and the fall colors in this area lovely this time of year. We will continue on to Hartford (45 minutes away) in the afternoon and check into our hotel for a rest. This evening, we’ll enjoy a session in the Hartford Temple built in the distinctive New England style set amidst the maple trees. B, L
October 14: We’ll show you some interesting things in Hartford this morning before we continue making our way south. Today is Saturday and we are about three hours from New York City. We will arrive in time to enjoy an afternoon session in the Manhattan Temple. We will then check in to our hotel in midtown Manhattan (near Times Square). Theaters are in full swing and most all theaters are wthin walking distance. We recommend that you see a Broadway show this evening (a list of shows and prices are available on Broadway.com). B
October 15: This morning, we’ll attend sacrament meeting followed by a chance to show you around the city. We’ll start with a stroll in Central Park enjoying the views and weather that are prevalent this time of year. We’ll coninue down 5th Avenue and have lunch around Rockefeller Center. We have then included EITHER a visit to the 9/11 museum OR the Freedom Tower (observation deck). After a short walking tour we make a picture stop at Battery Park (of the Statue of Liberty) before making our way out of the city. We are 90 minutes from Phildelphia where we’ll spend two nights. We’ll be getting to the hotel around 8:00 this evening. B, D
October 16: We have seen important historical sites in Boston and New York City, but Philadelphia is where it all began. We have a timed entry this morning to visit Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence AND the Constitution were adopted. We’ll also see the Liberty Bell. After lunch, a local guide will then show us lesser known, but equally important sites in this history-filled city. An early dinner is included tonight before returning to our hotel. B, D
October 17: Today is Tuesday and the Philadelphia Temple which will have been closed for one month, reopens today. They have not yet announced the session times, but we plan to visit in the morning. We then depart Philadelphia and make our way about 90 minutes to the southwest where lunch is waiting for us in Amish country. Lancaster County showcases some of the most beautiful farmland in America. We’ll have a buffet lunch at the Bird in Hand Family Restaurant (delicious!). We’ll then give you an hour at the Kitchen Kettle which is a fun collection of Amish shops. Instead of shopping, you can take a buggy ride throgh some of the farms if you prefer. We will leave the area around 3:30 and drive to Gettysburg, PA where we’ll spend the evening. B, L
October 18: This morning we will be joined by our friend Deb who is a retired high school history teacher – and she’ll give us an excelent 90 minute tour of the Gettysburg Battlefields. History changed here in a very important way. You’ll then have some time to see the excellent film and exhibits at the new Visitors Center. After lunch, we will make our way into Maryland and enjoy an afternoon session at the newly rededicated Washington DC Temple. You’ve probably seen it before, but it is now worth another look after undergoing major renovations. After the session, we’ll spend 30 minutes in the visitors center before making our way into Alexandria where we’ll be staying for two nights. We will take you into Old Town Alexandria to enjoy dinner on your own in this quaint, colonial town on the Potomac River. B
October 19: After breakfast, we will begin to see the sites. Temperatures are pleasant, autumn is in the air, and it’s a great time to be in Washington D.C. We’ll see the impressive World War II Memorial with its majestic setting and inspiring layout. We’ll also have a picture stop at the White House. The most magnificent monuments this time of year are the new FDR Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. After lunch, we’ll visit Arlington Cemetery where we’ll see the Kennedy graves, witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and the impressive Lee Mansion (if you’ve seen the cemetery, you can choose from other activities). During the day, we’ll also visit the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial and the Iwo Jima Memorial. At the end of the day, you’ll have 2 hours to spend at the Smithsonian museum of your choice. A farewell dinner is included tonight at Gadspy’s Tavern which was frequented by George Washington. We’re dining in the original building. B, D
October 20: This morning we will be at Mount Vernon when it opens. We’ll enjoy a guided tour of George Washington’s home followed by time to enjoy the grounds and excellent Visitors Center with world class films and displays. We then make our way to the airport for our flights home. B
Registration Information:
To make a reservation, simply fill out the attached reservation form and send it to us with a deposit of $300 per person. When we receive your deposit, we will mail you a receipt confirming that you are registered for the tour. A letter with instructions, hotel itinerary flight information (if applicable) and luggage tags will be sent roughly 75 days prior to departure at which time the balance will be due. You do not need to pay the balance until after you receive that packet. We require final payments in the form of a check. If that is not possible, arrangements can be made to use a credit card. Webb Tours accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. A 2.5% fee applies to final payments made by credit card.
Cancellation Penalties
We understand that you may need to cancel your trip for whatever reason. If it is 60 days or more before departure, all money will be refunded. If airline tickets are purchased prior to that time (with your permission), they become the property of the traveler and are not refundable. All other funds will be returned if cancellation occurs outside of 90 days. If it is within 90 days, we will charge you only what Webb Tours cannot recover. In some cases, we can recover all of it. In others, we cannot. Cruise lines, airlines, hotels and other service providers require funds in advance and have their own rules about what will be refunded once paid. We must follow their guidelines. For airlines, specifically, tickets are generally non refundable when purchased. However, most airlines will allow the value of the canceled tickets to be reused for future travel, though a penalty may be assessed to reuse the tickets. If you have to cancel, Webb Tours will work with other providers to obtain as much refund as possible for our travelers. Our travelers know us to be very fair in this regard.
Cancellation Insurance:
Cancellation insurance is also available should you be interested. The insurance provider that we us is Travelex Insurance. You can learn about them at www.travelexinsurance.com. With this insurance, most of your money will be returned to you in case you have to cancel for covered reasons (illness or death of an immediate family member) at the last minute. The price for the insurance varies based on the price of the trip and the age of the participant (at the time the insurance is purchased).
If you are interested in the insurance, you can purchase it through Webb Tours at any time. The insurance goes into effect once purchased. If you have any major pre-existing conditions, it is best to purchase the insurance within 14 days of making your initial deposit as that will cover an illness that may result from a pre-existing condition. If you don’t have pre-existing conditions, you can purchase the insurance any time between now and the time you make your final payment. Insurance cannot be purchased after your final payment is made. Webb Tours is not the insurer and acts as agent for Travelex. To activate your insurance, we need your premium and your birth date. Insurance also includes the following items:
Trip interruption up to 150% of the cost of the trip (if you have to leave in the middle of the trip)
