Overview

It’s on almost everyone’s bucket list and for good reason – a chance to go to Africa and see the animals ON SAFARI.  But Africa is a big continent. So many different itineraries.  So many national tour companies. So many trips that don’t include enough of what you really want to see.  BUT THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT.  This itinerary is focuses on THREE THINGS:  Capetown, Safaris and Victoria Falls.

Why do we go in June?  The dates are carefully chosen. The dry season starts in May. The grases are drynig out which is good for animal viewing. However, there is still plenty of water in Victoria Falls. And the weather is almost always nice in Capetown. So it’s a good time to go. Temperatures are lovely (60’s and 70’s), it is generally dry and we can see all that we want to see.

A word about Capetown, South Africa: It was recently voted as one of the best places in the world to visit by the New York Times.  This vibrant city is a healthy mix of city and suburban living,  outdoor recreational activities and relaxation. Two oceans with their beautiful white sand beaches embrace this nature-saturated city.

And Victoria Falls: It’s no surprise that Victoria Falls holds its place as one of the Seven Natural
Wonders of the World. And you’ll quickly see why. It’s a place you have to experience. Pictures don’t do it justice. It is the largest single sheet of falling water in the world and it will take your breath away.

And of course, THE SAFARIS. We will be focusing our attention on three spectacular parks: Chobe National Park in Botswana, Stanley Livingston Preserve near Victoria Falls and Piliansburg Game Reserve near Johannesburg. All are well known and you have a chance to see the famous “Big Five” as we enjoy the African mammals in their natural habitat.

So read on. And compare the price. It includes a great deal and is less expensive than other similar African tours. Space is limited to 40 guests. We hope you can join us.

Itinerary

June 17 and 18, 2026: Depart the USA: Depart the USA on your overnight flight via Amsterdam or Paris to Capetown, South Africa.  We arrive around 5 pm on June 18th. Our hotel for four nights is the lovely Commodore Inn in the famous V&A district of Capetown.

June 19: Welcome to Capetown one of the interesting and beautiful cities on the African continent. There is much to see and do in this area and we’ll have three full days to explore. We’ll begin this morning at Table Mountain. This iconic landmark in Cape Town is one of the most photographed sights in the country. We’ll board the cable car and take it to the top of the summit.  At the upper cable station, there is a restaurant and a shop and several footpaths to explore and enjoy the incredible views in all directions. After lunch (weather permitting), we will take a short ferry ride over to Robben Island. This is one of the most famous prisons in the world. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned here for 18 years and it is a very interesting place to visit.  The tour guides inside the prison today, are former political prisoners and their knowledge of this island is unparalleled and adds a unique cultural layer to this experience. A nice dinner is included tonight near the hotel.  B, D

June 20: Today we enjoy the famous Cape Peninsula Tour – a highlight on any visit to South Africa. We drive along the Atlantic coast with beautiful views of Chapmans Peak on the left and the ocean on the right. The Chapmans Peak Drive is affectionately known as Chappies and is a must for anyone who is passionate about the majestic scenery of The Cape. We arrive at Cape of Goodhope National Park (Cape Point). We’ll see the interesting Visitors Center and those interested can take the funicular to the top. A short walk takes you out to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse on what is the close to the most southern point of the African continent. We have an included lunch at Seaforth Restaurant in Simon’s Town set on the white sands of Seaforth Beach with lovely views of the mountains and the sea.  We will also be able to see the quirky penguins waddling or swimming around. We then go down to nearby Bolders Beach to walk among these fascinating African Penguins who have lived in this habitat for many millenia. They have adapted to the climate here and have a protected place to their seaside home. We then make our way back into the city. Dinner is on your own tonight in the V&A Waterfront area which is full of shops and restaurants – just 2 minutes walk from our hotel.  B, L

June 21:  Today we explore South Africa’s wine country which is about 50 miles north of the city. The region is famous for its olive groves, cheeses and vineyards. The private estates with their giant oak trees set against the mountains creates a lovely scene.  We’ll give you a bit of free time in the charming town of Franschoek for browsing.  We have inlcuded a delightful lunch in one of the private estates. The setting, the views and the food are exceptional. We will then return back to Capetown where you’ll have a free evening. B, L

June 22: After another DELICIOUS breakfast at our hotel, we’ll make our way to the airport for our mid day flight to Victoria Falls in the country of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is a stunning destination for its raw beauty and world class safaris. We will check into our hotel where we will spend three of the next four nights. It is the Ilala Lodge Hotel in the heart of the town Victoria Falls, where the Smoke that Thunders (from the falls) inspires all that stand in its glory. The lodge is idyllically situated on the Zimbabwean side of the mighty Zambezi River boasting impressive views of this natural wonder of the world. The hotel has delicioius cuisine, beautifully landscaped grounds and a large swimming pool. Dinner is included tonight. B, D

June 23: It’s no surprise that Victoria Falls holds its place as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. You’ll soon see why. We’ll explore from the Zimbabwean side. A meandering path (through the rain forest scenery) hugs the river bank and will take us to various viewing points to take in the majesty of the falls. We’ll see landmarks such as the Main Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Rainbow Falls, the Boiling Pot, Cataract Island, and Livingstone Island. You don’t just see it – you hear it and you feel the mist as millions of gallons of water crash into the deep, narrow gorge below. If time permits, we’ll cross over to the Zambia side of the river to take in the views from that side. We will then return to our lodge for some free time. At around 4:30, we’ll be taken to the Zambeze River for a delightful sunset cruise on the Zambezi Explorer.  The cruise includes some hors d’oeudervs and beverages.  We return to the hotel around 7 for a free evening. B, L

June 24:  It’s time to SAFARI! Today we get an early start.  We’ll travel about 90 minutes by car into neighboring Botswana which is home to the INCREDIBLE Chobe National Park – one of the best safari places in Africa. Once in the park, we will board a comfortable boat to enjoy a River Safari enjoying the animals from the river. Lots of animals come to the water often and this gives us a chance to see them from the water. We’ll likely see large herds of elephants, water buffalo and a myriad of other mammals. There is also abundant birdlife in the area. It is a relaxing way to see the animals. We’ll then transfer to our comfortable safari vehicles and enjoy a game drive deeper into the park to contiue viewing whatever nature has in store – and it is always something amazing. A delicous lunch is waiting for us as we reflect on what we have seen. We then continue deeper into the park as we make our way to our luxury tent camp where we will stay this evening. A night on the savannah is unforgettable. It is completely safe and we are in the middle of the African animals. We’ll have a relaxing evening including a nice dinner at our lodge which has all the ammenities we need including comfortable beds, hot water, indoor plumbing, great food and beautifully landscaped grounds. B, L, D

After a nice breakfast, we’ll continue with a 1/2 day game drive to enjoy more of what nature has in store. After lunch, we’ll make our way back to Zimbabwe and to our hotel in Victoria Falls for our last evening here. B, L

June 26: Today we transfer to the airport for our morning flight to Johannesurg, the capitol of South Africa. Johannesburg is a vast city where opposites collide to create an interesting city of contradictions and  charm.  Situated within the province of Gauteng, Johannesburg is home to the worlds largest urban forest of approximately 10 million trees.  Upon arrival, we’ll take you to our favorite restaurant in the city for a delicious, included lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll show you some of the hilghlights of the city. We’ll stay at the DaVinci Hotel on Mandela Square for two nights. B, L

June 27: After breakfast you will depart for Pilanesberg National Park for our final safari of the trip. Once again, we’ll be in our open air vehicles – but in a completely different part of the continent. Keep an eye out for the “Big 5” – lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros, and have your camera ready! Over 7,000 animals and 360 bird species can be found on the reserve. Lions basking in the sun, elephants roaming the vast expanse of the land, and perhaps an elusive leopard…our driver/guide will do his best to track them so you can witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat! We then return to Johannesburg for our farewell dinner as we prepare to return home tomorrow. Meals: B, L, D
