Blossoms to Broadway
Overview

It’s great to travel in the spring!  Webb Tours is delighted to once again offer our popular getaway to the east coast.  We’ll fly to Washington DC, and spend three nights in our nation’s capitol (including Mt. Vernon).  The dogwoods and tulips should be in full bloom.  From Washington, we’ll travel to Gettysburg, Amish Country, Philadelphia, and into New York City.  While in the Big Apple, we’ll enjoy up to two Broadway shows (of your choosing) and return to Salt Lake from New York.  It is among our most popular tours.  We would love to have you join us.

We purposly do NOT go to DC during cherry blossoms. While it is beutiful, the timing is difficult to predict, it is VERY crowded and late March/early April is too cold for New York City. We go in late April when it’s warmer and there are still beautiful blossoms to enjoy.

Itinerary
Please Note

April 21: Salt Lake to Washington DC.  Today we’ll board our flight to the Washington DC area.  We’ll arrive in the late afternoon.  Our hotel is in a nearby suburb.   We’ll have a buffet welcome dinner tonight and make an evening visit to the Lincoln/Vietnam and Korean Memorials (stunning at night). Tour to pay for dinner and flights today.

April 22:  Washington DC.  After breakfast, we will begin to see the sites.  Temperatures are pleasant, spring is in the air, and it’s a great time to be in Washington D.C.  We’ll start with a reserved tour inside the Capiol, with the excellent new film. We’ll then see the World War II Memorial with its majestic setting and inspiring layout.  We’ll also have a picture stop at the White House.  The most magnificent monuments this time of year are the new FDR Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial.  After lunch, we’ll visit Arlington Cemetery where we’ll see the Kennedy graves, witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and the impressive Lee Mansion (if you’ve seen the cemetery, you can choose from other activities).  During the day, we’ll also visit the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial and the Iwo Jima Memorial. This evening, we’ll turn you loose in the delightful town of Alexandria where you can browse the quaint streets, enjoy dinner and feel the history of one of America’s great towns.  This is where George Washington spent his social time.  Tour to pay for breakfast and Arlington Tourmobile

April 23:  Washington DC.   This morning we’ll take a beautiful 20 minute drive to Mt. Vernon where we’ll spend the morning.   This was George Washington’s home on the Potomac River which is spectacular in the spring.  We’ll have a guided tour of the inside of the home and free time to see the gardens, out buildings, tombs of George & Martha and the education center recently opened with exceptional historical films and displays.  Mt. Vernon is one of our nation’s greatest treasures – especially with all they have recently added.  For lunch, we’ll eat at one of George Washington’s favorite places:  Gadsby’s Tavern. This is an 18th century tavern where George & Martha Washington shared many occasions.   We’ll spend the afternoon at the Smithsonian Museums.  You choose what is most interesting to you (American History, Air & Space, Natural History or even the Holocaust Museum). We’ll return to the hotel for dinner and rest this evening.  Tour to pay for light breakfast, lunch and Mt. Vernon.

April 24: Washington to York:   After breakfast, we’ll drive by Ford Theater, Georgetown and Embassy Row.  We’ll make picture stops at the National Cathedral and the stunning LDS Temple that appears to float on the trees.  At about 11:00, we’ll take a 90 minute ride into Gettysburg, that pivotal battle ground of the Civil War.  A BRAND NEW Visitor’s Center just opened three years ago and it is VERY well done.  A cemetery guide will board our bus and take us to important battle areas while reviewing the interesting history, followed by time to enjoy the new center and the excellent new film.  Our hotel is the Holiday Inn in York.  Tour to pay for light breakfast, guide and dinner.

April 25:  York to Philadelphia.  We’re right in the heart of Amish Country.  The countryside is beautiful with well groomed farms as far as the eye can see.  We’ll spend time in the town of Bird in Hand.  Choose between some for some shopping in a charming setting, or an interesting production called “Jacob’s Choice” (or do a little of both).  We’ll have an early buffet lunch at the Family Cupboard (great Amish cooking) followed by a 90 minute drive to Philadelphia.  We’ll arrive with plenty of time to see the NEW Visitors Center (with an excellent film), the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall where freedom began (and where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed).  If time permits, you can visit the new Constitution Center.  Our hotel is the Holiday Inn Express in the Philadelphia area tonight.  Tour to pay for light breakfast and lunch today.

April 26:  Philadelphia to New York City.  After a light breakfast at the hotel, we’ll drive toward New York City.  It’s exciting to see the Skyline as it comes into view.  We’ll be in Liberty Park on the New Jersey side where we’ll board our ferry for a 10 minute ride to Ellis Island and then to the Statue of Liberty.  The ferry will then take us to the New York side (Battery Park) where we’ll enjoy a short walking tour including Ground Zero, Wall Street, the NYSE, Trinity Church and more (the most historical and interesting places in Manhattan in my opinion).  We have included entrance into the fabulous 9/11 Museum which opened in 2014.  We’ll then check into our hotel where you’ll have a free evening to enjoy dinner followed by a chance to go to the top of the Empire State Building (transportation provided), or enjoy other activities of your choosing.  Tour to pay for breakfast and ferries today.

April 27:  New York City.  There’s much more to see and do.  You’ll have a free morning to enjoy Times Square, shopping or relaxing.  At about 10:00, we’ll take you on a tour to see the highlights of the city including Central Park (for a nice walk), Greenwich Village, Little Italy, Chinatown, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Times Square and much more.  We’ll also stop at the fabulous Conservatory Gardens in full bloom this time of year! Those interested can opt for a matinee show today instead of the tour.  An early dinner is included tonight at the recently reopened TAVERN ON THE GREEN, a first class restaurant in Central Park.  Afterwards, you’ll have a chance to see the Broadway Show of your choosing – You tell us which one and we’ll arrange it for you (a list will be sent out well in advance).  Tour to pay for NYC tour and dinner today.

Note:  The Broadway shows are OPTIONAL.   We will provide you with a list of options and price ranges for the  show in New York.  You may choose to attend one show, two shows or no shows.  You choose the performance and you choose the price range.  We’ll obtain the tickets (or you can obtain your own).  At the time the brochure was printed, the theaters had not confirmed their spring schedules.  This will be available in November or December and will be sent to all tour participants.  Some of the performances will be:  Phantom, Wicked, King & I, Jersey Boys, Matilda, Lion King and others (Hamilton is already sold out through the spring!).  Show tickets are not included in the price of the tour, and must be paid for at the time they are ordered.

April 28:  This morning we’ll enjoy a subway ride to Brooklyn where we’ll enjoy a one-way stroll on the pedestrian path over the Brooklyn Bridge.  Trust me.  You’ll LOVE this. This affords the BEST views of Manhattan and is a fun way to enjoy the city.  We’ll then transfer to the airport for our flight to Salt Lake.

New York City is, without question, one of the world’s great destinations.  BUT YOU MUST SEE IT WITH SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING.  We have taken over 100 groups to New York for over 52 years.  We can show it to you in a way that few others can.

Registration Information:

To make a reservation, simply fill out the attached reservation form and send it to us with a deposit of $300 per person.  When we receive your deposit, we will mail you a receipt confirming that you are registered for the tour.  A letter with instructions, hotel itinerary flight information (if applicable) and luggage tags will be sent roughly 75 days prior to departure at which time the balance will be due.  You do not need to pay the balance until after you receive that packet.  We require final payments in the form of a check.  If that is not possible, arrangements can be made to use a credit card.  Webb Tours accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. A 2.5% fee applies to final payments made by credit card.

Cancellation Penalties

We understand that you may need to cancel your trip for whatever reason.  If it is 120 days or more before departure, all money will be refunded.  If airline tickets are purchased prior to that time (with your permission), they become the property of the traveler and are not refundable.  All other funds will be returned if cancellation occurs outside of 120 days.  If it is within 120 days, we will charge you only what Webb Tours cannot recover.  In some cases, we can recover all of it.  In others, we cannot.  Cruise lines, airlines, hotels and other service providers require funds in advance and have their own rules about what will be refunded once paid.  We must follow their guidelines.  For airlines, specifically, tickets are generally non refundable when purchased.  However, most airlines will allow the value of the canceled tickets to be reused for future travel, though a penalty may be assessed to reuse the tickets.  If you have to cancel, Webb Tours will work with other providers to obtain as much refund as possible for our travelers.  Our travelers know us to be very fair in this regard.

Cancellation Insurance:

Cancellation insurance is also available should you be interested.  The insurance provider that we us is Travelex Insurance.  You can learn about them at www.travelexinsurance.com.  With this insurance, most of your money will be returned to you in case you have to cancel for covered reasons (illness or death of an immediate family member) at the last minute.  The price for the insurance varies based on the price of the trip and the age of the participant (at the time the insurance is purchased).

If you are interested in the insurance, you can purchase it through Webb Tours at any time. The insurance goes into effect once purchased.  If you have any pre-existing conditions, it is best to purchase the insurance within 14 days of making your initial deposit as that will cover an illness that may result from a pre-existing condition. If you don’t have pre-existing conditions, you can purchase the insurance any time between now and the time you make your final payment.  Insurance cannot be purchased after your final payment is made.  Webb Tours is not the insurer and acts as agent for Travelex.  To activate your insurance, we need your premium and your birth date.  Insurance also includes the following items:
