Iceland, Greenland and Canada
Overview

It’s a big world out there. So many amazing places to see. THIS ONE NEEDS TO BE ON YOUR LIST. We are going to ICELAND – and we’ll enjoy a bit of the Netherlands and a fun stop in Scotland.

ICELAND is a very interesting country. As the least-populated country in Europe, it is full of wide-open spaces and vast areas of untouched wilderness. Abundant natural beauty is around every corner with unparalleled scenery unlike anywhere else. Steep mountains, green landscapes, massive waterfalls – all in vast, unpopulated spaces.  The people are friendly and there is much to see. This cruise makes THREE important stops along the coast AND spend time cruising in two of Iceland’s most scenic fjords. At the end of the cruise, we’ll spend a day in the interior of Iceland in what is called the Golden Circle. And we’ll show you interesting highlights in Reykjavik.

The cruise starts in THE NETHERLANDS. We’ll fly in a day early and show you the VERY interesting Reclamation Museum in Rotterdam (the history how the Dutch created this below sea level place to live). We then board the ship in Amsterdam and set sail.

WE’ll make a stop in SCOTLAND (at Inverness) and take you to the famous Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness. We will also visit NEWFOUNDLAND and ST. PIERRE in northeastern Canada. Newfoundland is definitely worth seeing, but hard to get to. Seeing it from the convenience of a cruise ship is the way to do it.

Important note:  Iceland is EXPENSIVE in the summer, especially for food and lodging. That is why a cruise ship is the BEST WAY to see this area. We’ll enjoy preplanned, private sightseeing for our group during the days and return to the comfort of our floating resort for dinner and sleeping. We’ll spend a night in Reykjavic so that we can see the fabulous Golden Circle.

We’ll travel at the best time to see these places, which is July and August. It never gets overly warm there – temps this time of year will be in the high fifties in Iceland.  It’s the best time to be in the region.   We pledge to do all we can to make it the trip of a lifetime… We hope you can join us.

Itinerary

July 10, 2025: Today we gather with great anticipation for our journey to this fasciating part of the world. If you are flying from Salt Lake, we will have group air space reserved. If you are flying from another gateway, we can arrange the air for you, or you can arrange to meet us the Netherlands.

July 11: We’ll land in Amsterdam around mid day. Our private coach will transfer us to our four star hotel in Delft. After a rest, we’ll walk you along the lovely canals of Delft into the impressive main square where you’ll have time to get dinner.

July 12:  This morning, we’ll take you to a very interesting museum in Rotterdam. There is a famous saying: “God created the world, but the Dutch created the Netherlands”. What they did to make this area habitable is fascinating and this museum is VERY interesting. We’ll spend a couple of hours here before heading over the ship which is just a few minutes away. We’ll have lunch on board and prepare to set sail at 3:00 PM.

July 13: Full day at sea. Use the time to become familiar with your floating resort. There is much to do on board and it will be helpful to get your bearings and know what is available. We will have dinner as a group tongiht in one of the main dining rooms.

July 14: Port of Call in Inverness, Scotland  Welcome to the Highlands, the wildest and least trammeled region in the entire United Kingdom. Just outside Inverness is a trove of Scottish and Celtic history, myth and natural beauty amid unspoiled glens, mountains, lochs, rivers and more. Most famous among the attractions is no doubt the legendary Loch Ness which is a very scenic area of the country. On our excursion today, we’ll see the famous ruined castle of Urquhart on the shores of Loch Ness. It’s a perfect way to use our time here as it combines natural beauty, the loch and history because of the castle. You’ll have additional time in the town of Inverness before we sale at 5:00 PM.

July 15:  At sea today.

July 16: Port of Call in Seydisfjordur.  The lush valleys and dramatic waterfalls of Seyðisfjörður are some of the most picturesque sights on Iceland’s east coast. And at the head of the fjord sits the colorful, lively town of Seyðisfjörð.  Seyðisfjörð was founded in the 19th century by Norwegian settlers, who built some of the brightly painted wooden buildings you see today. The town, population 700, has kept its connection to the European mainland:  The animal residents in the area surrounding Seyðisfjörð are more likely to be wild reindeer and arctic foxes, while seals and porpoises swim along the coast. Many native bird species, including puffins and arctic terns, nest around town, with dozens of species at Skálanes, a nature reserve and research center. You can join a walking tour in town or join us as we explore some of the scenery to the east (which is BEAUTIFUL). In the evening, we will our ship will SAIL INTO THE FJORD to take in the natural beauty. Find a place and enjoy it!

July 17: Port of Call in Akureyri, Iceland: Set along the shores of one of the most breathtaking fjords in Iceland, Akureyri is the nation’s second largest urban area and a center of Icelandic folk culture. Our private excursion today will take us by comfortable motor coach. We’ll show you some highlights of the town before driving out to one of the most impissive waterfalls in Iceland called Godafoss “The Waterfall of the Gods”.  You’ll have a chance to photograph the falls and surrounding scenery. We will then spend some time at the impressive Botanical Gardens showcasing Iceland’s incredible plant life. This is the northern most botanical garden in the world and very interesting to visit. The ship is in port from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. As we leave today (and it is dark until after midnight), we’ll sail into the scenic Eyjafjordur for more breathtaking scenery. These evening journeys into these fjords are highlights of this cruise.

July 18: Port of Call in Isafjordur, Iceland: Ísafjörður is a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts. Boasting an enchanting fjord ideal for watersports and a mountainous landscape brimming with opportunities. For our private excursion today, a local guide will show us Buna Waterfall and some highlights in the town of Isafjordur. We then take a 15 minute drive to a neighboring town of Bolungarvik where we’ll visit an interesting open air museum and learn how fishing was done here over 100 years ago. The excursion is approximately 4 hours. We are in port from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

July 19: Arrival in Reykjavik:  Today our ship docks in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capitol city. Our private coach will be waiting for us as we enjoy one more full day in this amazing country. We’ll show you a few highlihgts of Reykjavik before beginning our fabulous Golden Circle tour. The drive through the wild scenery is part of the charm. The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular sightseeing route, a 180-mile loop that takes us to three main landmarks: Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, and Geysir geothermal area. The magical landscapes at Thingvellir are formed in the unique geographical setting of a rift valley in the divide between the North-American and Eurasian continental plates. You can actually SEE where the plates pulled apart. The lava fields at Thingvellir are torn apart by tectonic forces, leaving admirable gorges and fissures. We then continue on to one of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls: Gullfoss It features two dramatic drops, with the water plunging into a deep crevice. The waterfall is fed by the Hvítá river and is an important stop, offering stunning views and unique photo opportunities. We’ll have lunch while we are here (on own). Our final stop is the Geysir Geothermal Reserve This is where you’ll find hot springs, mud pots, and, of course, the famous geysers – one of which erupts every few minutes.  We then continue back to Reykjavik and check into our hotel. You have a free evening to explore in the town (Note: Lodging in Reykjavik in the summer is expensive – but it is worth it because the scenery in this part of Iceand is worth exploring).

July 20: Transfer to the Reykjavik Airport for flights home.
